We would like to draw racehorse trainers’ attention to an impending rule change shortly to be enforced (date to be confirmed), whereby any racehorse running in France will require a course of vaccinations against Equine Herpes Virus (EHV).
The new EHV vaccination requirements will mirror those that are already in place for Equine Influenza vaccinations, as detailed below:
- Horses will require an initial primary course of 3 injections.
- The second injection is given between 21 and 92 days after the first.
- The third is given between 150 and 215 days after the second, and then booster vaccinations given annually thereafter.
This will require considerable thought and planning. Please speak to your Rossdales vet to discuss options to ensure compliance with the new rule.
