For the second year in a row, Rossdales entered a team in the Cambridge Dragon Boat Festival, which took place on the River Cam on 9th September - and this time they returned victorious when claiming victory as Mixed Champions. A total of 48 teams took part in this year's Festival and rowing under the title of the ‘Rossdales Rowers’, our gallant team not only won the mixed division but were second overall, only 0.4 seconds behind the overall Champions. Dragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and is the fastest growing water activity in Britain today. Up to 10 people paddle each 30-foot boat with a drummer at the front beating time and our helm at the tail steering a straight course. No previous experience is required, just plenty of team spirit! This was the 13th charity Dragon Boat Festival to be held on the River Cam, with £22,000 raised for The Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust.
The Rossdales team included Ollie Pynn, Mike Shepherd, Mark Grant, Sarah Moore, Sarah Waterfall, Yasmin Morowa, Tristan Hudson, Charly Rattley, Mary Black, Katie Hall, Shannon Edmondson, Tina Long and Adam Meehan.
Resplendent in their ‘sassy sailor’ outfits, which were expertly sourced by Sarah Waterfall and arrived just in the nick of time ahead of the race, they all looked fabulous and performed even better – and, surprisingly, there weren’t too many complaints from the male rowers about having to wear stockings!
