GLDH is a mitochondrial enzyme found in many tissues (liver, kidney, intestine, muscle), but most serum GLDH originates from the liver and elevations are usually associated with acute hepatocellular damage.
It is a relatively stable enzyme (unlike sorbitol dehydrogenase (SDH)).
