Lewis is one of our specialist surgeons at the hospital and has a large and varied caseload. He joined the partnership in April 2016.
In 2013, he was awarded RCVS Recognised Specialist status in Equine Surgery. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive surgery.
Lewis qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2006 and undertook a residency in Equine Surgery at Rossdales between 2007-2010. He also holds an RCVS Certificate in Equine Surgery (Orthopaedics) and a Diploma from the European College of Veterinary Surgeons. In addition, Lewis is one of only 7 holders in the UK of an RCVS Diploma in Equine Soft Tissue Surgery, which he was awarded in 2016.
In 2018, Lewis was awarded Fellowship of the RCVS - the highest level of membership of the RCVS for members who have demonstrated significant original contribution in their subject. Lewis is currently the youngest vet to hold ‘FRCVS’ status. His Diploma of Fellowship was awarded for the production of a thesis titled “The Use of Intrasynovial Corticosteroids in Equine Thoroughbred Racehorses: Analysis of Safety, Efficacy and Racing Performance.” One of the chapters of the thesis has recently been accepted for publication in Equine Veterinary Journal. This study is the largest study to date that examines fractures in racehorses following intrasynovial medication.
Lewis runs the practice's over-ground endoscopy service and has extensive experience of horses in training.
